GED Math Practice formula sheet

Mathematics formula sheet

The same formulas that are provided on the GED Mathematical Reasoning test. Anything not listed here (for example, area of a rectangle or a triangle’s angle sum) you are expected to know.

Area

ParallelogramA = bh
TrapezoidA = ½ h (b1 + b2)

Surface area and volume

Rectangular / right prismSA = ph + 2B     V = Bh
CylinderSA = 2πrh + 2πr²     V = πr²h
PyramidSA = ½ ps + B     V = ⅓ Bh
ConeSA = πrs + πr²     V = ⅓ πr²h
SphereSA = 4πr²     V = 4⁄3 πr³
p = perimeter of base B; s = slant height; π ≈ 3.14

Algebra

Slope of a linem = (y2 − y1) / (x2 − x1)
Slope-intercept formy = mx + b
Point-slope formy − y1 = m(x − x1)
Standard form of a quadraticy = ax² + bx + c
Quadratic formulax = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) / 2a
Pythagorean theorema² + b² = c²
Simple interestI = Prt   (I = interest, P = principal, r = rate, t = time)
Distance formulad = rt
Total costtotal cost = (number of units) × (price per unit)

Data

MeanSum of the values divided by the number of values
MedianMiddle value of an ordered list (or the mean of the two middle values)

Not on the sheet but expected: perimeter and area of rectangles, squares, triangles (A = ½bh) and circles (A = πr², C = 2πr); percent = part ÷ whole; distance and midpoint on the coordinate plane; compound interest A = P(1 + r/n)nt.
